General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: “We need food from the forests, food from the grasslands, food from rivers, lakes and seas, food from facility agriculture, and heat and protein from plants and animals.” The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts that the global population will reach 9 billion in 2050. Protein foods such as meat, eggs, and milk produced by traditional livestock, poultry, and aquaculture are difficult to meet human needs. “Feeding” and “edible insect protein” are a new type of protein resource with rich variety and high efficiency. They can be used as alternative protein for feeding and food to meet the requirements of the “big food concept”. At the same time, it is also a kind of “new quality productivity” that is green and environmentally friendly and creates a carbon sink.
At present, China’s edible insect protein industry has basically completed the development, standardization, application and promotion of the entire industrial chain after more than ten years of difficult innovation and exploration through the joint efforts of production, learning, research and politics, and has been widely accepted. By focusing on breeding, breeding, large-scale breeding, disease prevention and control, insect nutrition, application in animal feed and breeding, and quality standard construction in the insect protein industry, we have successfully developed a “Chinese-style development model” that is different from developed countries and regions such as Europe and the United States. We firmly believe that the past 2025 will be the first year of our country’s insect protein industry, especially the black water fly industry, and 2026 will enter a period of rapid development. Insect protein will make an important contribution to the engineering of alternative protein for feeding in China’s “15th Five-Year Development Plan”.
Therefore, based on the accumulated experience of successfully holding the first two seminars, we are preparing for the “Third International Seminar on Feeding, Edible Insects and Sustainable Food Safety Solutions in 2026”, and plan to hold it on April 10-13, 2026 at Guangzhou South China Agricultural University. Grand.
The third seminar will expand its scope and bring together heads of government functional departments, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs at home and abroad. They will share their work experience in the research and development, application and promotion of feeding/edible insects, sustainable feeding of alternative proteins (such as microbial protein and algae protein), the resource utilization of organic waste, animal nutrition, feed science, animal breeding, protein food processing, etc., the latest research and development and industrialization progress, Jointly discuss the opportunities and challenges facing, form a joint industry-university-research-government effort, help rural revitalization, promote the high-quality and green development of alternative protein, especially insect protein industry, and provide sustainable solutions to solve the common problems of shortage of human feed and edible protein. Solutions.
